I've had repeated problems with getting my BX23 serviced. I've tried two different dealers in my area and both have been very unsatisfactory. Currently it's in for a hydro leak and in three weeks it hasn't been looked at. I'm wondering if this is a widespread problem or unique to my area, Northern Massachusetts.

First call the mfg. and make them aware of the issues you are having. The mfg. may cal the dealer and give them a kick in the butt.

I have had situations where the dealer owner/technician/service manager just didn't want to take the initiative to get the prolem resolved. I'd start with the service manager, then if that doesn't work, the general manager then the owner. Sometime if you bought it somewhere else and they worked on it, the next dealer is very reluctant to maybe re-fix the other dealer's "fix" which they may not get paid for. That's when the mfg. district or regional managers get involved. And I always tell them I'm a member of TP and that raises eyebrows when thyy realize there is more than just a local audience reading this info.

When I problems with my Nw Holland early on NH offerd to buy it back and trade me into another machine no questions asked (they knew they were having problems, and it probabaly didn't hurt to mention my brother in law works at Ford of which NH is a part. Yep I'm a name dropper.) ....

NH has been owned by Fiat for a number of years now and have nothing to do with Ford at this time. I'd be all over my dealer to have it fixed. ....

I am not sure exactly what area of MA you are in but my experience in MA was that there was not many larger tractor dealers in the area no matter what the color.
If you are going to a dealer that did not sell the tractor often they will not provide you any quick service. ....

Art I found this on the Buhler tratcor web site which supports your reply:

"In 1991 Fiat acquires 80% of Ford New Holland Inc., merges it with FiatGeotech and names the new company New Holland Geotech.
In 1993 Fiat Agri acquires the remaining shares from Ford and once again changes the name to simply New Holland. The terms of the acquisition require that the Ford name be eliminated from the tractors by January 1, 2000."

What I don't understand is in 2002 I got Ford Employee Discount on my "blue", which is "agricultural" (something in Ford's labor union agreement the dealer told me). My dealer told me that if I bought "yellow" or "construction" then I could not get the discount since that part of NH is/was not or no longer part of Ford. ....

I bought my bx22 from a dealer in central Ma (Williamsburg) 3 1/2 years ago. I would not go back. There is one dealer in Holyoke Ma. but I am not crazy about them either. I find it interesting in this day and age that some of these dealers aren't more accommodating. I moved from the midwest over fifteen years ago and I am still not used to the harshness overall. Western CT. has a dealer that I have been utilizing and has been great even though I did not buy the tractor from them. R&N in Torrington. It is definitely out of your way but may be worth it. ....

Thanks for your suggestions. I don't think I would want to go over the dealer's head by contacting the Kubota while my baby is in the dealer's shop. Its not so much poor service as it is NO service. There seems to be a shortage of mechanics. I think also the fact that dealers are far and few between means that the demand works to their advantage ....

Kendrews: I have had to this several times and my dealer's service manager actually preferred that I contacted the mfg. for them. Reason being if they call the mfg. there is the appearance of impropreity i.e., the dealer is looking to make more money off warranty than he should. Therefore, by me (you) calling the mfg. the reply you will get will start from the top down not bottom up. All you have o do is get inside the head of the service manager--become the service manager if you will and lt him know that you are on his side---an it is YOU that will go to bat and deal with the mfg.. You will win him over so that he will want to do your work as if the mfg. says, "FIX IT!" then he knoiws he won't hear any bitchin' from upper mamangene tabout why the warranty claim was rejected AND the mfg. has already cleared the way for an easy claim---especially if another dealer has worked on it. You can pussy-foot around and pout but that will get you nowhere. Be proactive. Been there. Done that. And sold the t-shirt at the yard sale.

Anecdote: I used to work in the automotive industry in the enginnering division and close to warranty and service parts divisions for several US and foreign car makers. Years ago a local metro-Detroit GM car dealer wanted to keep his new paint-and-body shop busy. Things were slow. He found many, many (20-30) cars on his lot that had legitimate factory-done damage to them (rear doors as I recall). So being an enterprizing fellow, he fixed all the cars and submitted the claims to GM. GM rejected ALL of them on the basis that the claims were not intiated by the Customer, but by the Dealer. GM's stance on the matter was if the customer didn't complain about the damage---there was NO damage. ....

I also had problems with some warranty work with my Kubota. I waited two weeks to have it fixed and then they did work on it That was not under warranty and charged me for it. They straightend the deck but I didn't know it was not right. Now I see one side of the deck is higher than the other side so they did not fix it they screwed it up. I never had such bad service. In the two weeks they said they were sorry and I said I understood during harvest time with big JD tracters broken down first things first, but when they stabbed me with a bill with work that I know was under warranty I won't be going back. I will not be buying my post hole digger or my bush hog from them and they lost more mney off bad and dishonest service than they made. Also, they are twice as expensive than King Cutter and other brands I can get anywhere, and they won't warranty their products anyway. I was open with them when I told them I got the tractor from Illinois but for the deal I got I am still way ahead. With the info I can get on these message boards I could have fixed it myself for cheaper. ....

I try not to speak out of line. From time to time dealers stay in touch with each other and offer discounts to the other dealers. We had good arrangements with the local IH truck dealer (navistar) even after the IH break-up. ....
